Vocabularisation

I was very disappointed to find this when performing a dictionary search on the word 'hot'...

tr.v. hot·ted, hot·ting, hots
Informal. To cause to increase in intensity or excitement. Often used with up

It is just wrong. Very wrong. Even if the dictionary appears to allow it.

In particular, pay attention to tv sports broadcasts, or even occasionally the news. Nothing is "heating up" up any more, things are always "hotting up". I can handle the phrase when dealing with pimped-out cars, but I prefer to receive my sports and news without the complete bastardisation of a perfectly reasonably expression.
