How did it get so far...?

OK, so I have a few amusing stories in my repertoire from events over the past few years. Personal favourites so far include;

- My $1 victory on Deal or No Deal

- The free meal that never was at a well-known Melbourne restaurant

But possibly the strangest to date has to be the bogan baby name... started as a joke between a few friends, spotted by other friends in the paper, heard in discussions on morning radio, discovered in forums around the interweb and now even made a newspaper story. But I've probably had enough of it now, so if you want to know the details, get in touch... it's very very odd. Or you could just scroll down.

That elusive balance

I haven't really said much recently here mainly because, quite frankly, I've been spending 10-12 hours a day at a computer at work for the past two weeks, and the last thing I feel like doing when I get home is typing more. I even missed having a day off for Queens Birthday weekend.

So, in the grand scheme of work-life balance, the work end of the scales is tipping a little bit too far over.

Don't get me wrong - I'm being extraordinarily productive, and much of this long-hours syndrome is by choice (although, if I didn't stay back to get stuff done, then it wouldn't really get done in time at all by anyone else, so "choice" is perhaps false advertising). At least, I don't have anyone standing over my desk telling me that I "have to stay back". If that happened, I think I would want to hit them in the face.

Should only be for a few more weeks though, and then hopefully those scales start balancing out properly. Now, if only all the effort got rewarded in an appropriate way, then I might be happy with work...

Culinary capers at the birthday bonanza

Can't believe it's been a week and half since birthday weekend, and I still haven't had the chance to write anything. Well, unfortunately, I won't be adding much more today.

My two major birthday meals this year were at Circa and Taxi. If you're gonna do it, may as well do it in style...

Did the degustation menu at Circa with matched wines (one of the most decadent, delicious and memorable meals I've had), while Taxi was (only!) the standard 3 course binge.

Descriptions of food and experiences to follow when I get the chance...
